Ezra

Got a chance to photograph the newly minted "Ezra" - the 8 day old son of my good friend Rich's daughter. A beautiful little boy with healthy lungs and an amazing bladder. Here are a few images from the quick studio session.

Back to School

Spent the weekend with a great group of guys from all over the country.

Watching the game and drinking beer?

No.

Playing poker?

Not exactly.

. . . I went back to school.

This weekend I attended the "Making Every Pixel Count" seminar at the University of Arizona's Mt. Lemmon Sky Center. An intensive three day and three night class on digital astrophotography image processing hosted by the renowned astrophotogragher Adam Block.

We spent the daytime hours learning how to reduce RGB long exposure images of the night sky taken through telescopes, trying out state-of-the-art astronomical processing software and sharing techniques and questions about the art.

At night we took data for later reduction throught the center's 24 inch RC Reflector telescope. I felt like I was a freshman in college again.

Hummer

Out in front of the Steward Observatory building - a tiny Anna's Hummingbird (I think) decided this was a good place to start a family. (Boy - if she only knew the characters that live next door). Here are a few pics taken this morning of the family breakfast.

Distracted

Spent the afternoon at a workshop in the University of Arizona Museum of Art (UAMA) on portrait photography. The instructor was very nice and tried his best to encourage the 15 individuals who attended, but I have to say I learned nothing. Did get to shoot a few pics of one of the attendees - beautiful girl named "Salena" I think - a Canon G9 shooter, who was gracious enough to give my camera a pretty smile.

While the instructor showed the rest of the class how to use fill-flash and adjust depth of field using the aperture settings on their point-and-shoots, I wandered off to find better distractions and stay away from the ab-initio wanna-be's roving lenses. I came across this group of skateboarders practicing their art behind the Museum. They kindly consented to a group portrait.
