Medically Occulted

"If you don't leave a comment - I don't know you were even here."

Well, last week I was back in the hospital as my cancer decided to eat my blood and required me to get numerous transfusions and other medically complex treatments. I'm still in the hospital but was allowed out for three hours to observe and photograph the daylight occultation of Venus by the Moon.

My wife drove over with a minimal amount of camera equipment to do the job. We setup on the second floor of the parking garage just northeast of the ER entrance. This provided some protection from the wind as well as some shade out of the 110 degree temperatures.

When it was done, I was completely exhausted and subsequently admitted to the ICU. I'm still here - for the time being.

I am glad you got the occultation, but saddened by the cancer's return. I finished 8 chemos and 35 radiation treatments to the head and neck on May 21st. My throat cancer is gone - for now. I expect it will be back someday. Swallowing is still nearly impossible, and I have no taste buds or saliva glands, so the simple pleasure of eating is a memory now. I have been following your blog while I was sick, and thought you had beaten it.

good pictures! Hang in there Harvey, you are an inspiration for me. Rest while in ICU and let them spoil you for a bit.

Give your wife a thanks from me for being the loving, tough lady she is (she would have to be to be married to ya!!!).

You got a Day Pass?! UMC wouldn't even let me leave the ER for 30 minutes to feed hungry kitties! Congrats on getting the shot, though I would have expected nothing less... Take care of yourself in there and come visit us soon!

If this is not proof of a photographer's passion and love for life and the capturing of it, I don't know what is. You have always been an inspiration to me and , I'm sure soo very many others, more than you can know. Even though I have never met you, I have always sensed that strong vibrant passion and spirit that you possess and create such beauty with. Love you Dave!!

You are remarkable, my friend. I really like this and it amazes me you did it with "minimal" equipment, in that horrible heat and on your knees. I like the pic. It was good to see your face yesterday. Art says hello back and we are both keeping you and your ladies very close in our hearts and intentions.
Love Jane

That is so cool that 1) you still have the spirit to want out to do this and 2) that they let you out! lol :) The pic turned out awesome, too. Looked back at the Zooseum post/pics, too. wow. Hope you're able to get some rest amongst the poking and prodding. Holding you all in the light and wishing and hoping and praying as well...

A beautiful shot of the Venus occultation. Your profile above says, "We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are . . ." You have a knack for showing the unique beauty in the world that most of us miss. Guess that makes you a beautiful person. Stay tough...hang in there.
