Making Every Pixel Count
Up here on Mt. Lemmon at the Sky Center continuing my edumacation 'bout astropicturing. Thanks to Adam Block (our instructor) I think I'm gonna have a stroke. Too much data . . . Error 601 . . . must dump core. System failure imminent . . .

In Memoriam
Today was the memorial service for Dr. Tom Gehrels, Professor of Astronomy at the University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory. I knew Dr. Gehrels as an undergraduate, and when he ran the Spacewatch Project. To mark the moment and begin the ceremony, a fly-by of four F-16 fighter aircraft was scheduled. Below are images from the unique event. Rest in Peace Dr. Gehrels.

McMath Sunset
Tonight's sunset behind the McMath Solar Telescope atop Kitt Peak. 800mm lens ISO 400 1/200 sec @ F/7.1 through Baader Solar Filter. This image was captured from 12.2 miles away from the mountain top where the telescope resides.
The video below was obtained from the same location using a Questar 3.5 and a Canon 5D Mark II in video mode at 1080p. The video is sped up by a factor of 2 for brevity.
